Westport Sketchbook: Main Street on Black Friday
Posted on 27 November 2009
I decided to go on location in Westport today with my sketchbook. I found Officer Ryan standing in the light rain, making sure shoppers could cross the road safely on Main Street. A young man who was playing the saxophone in the alcove hallway at Acqua, made beautiful music. Westporter’s were generous to this musician from Norwalk (who told me his name is Eric Pierce) as I noted most passers-by dropped coins or bills into his can. A few kids who like to draw came up and talked to me, too, which was another wonderful feature of this gray day for me.

What an enchanting day!
I love the sketches and it made me feel good that the musician was there on such a busy day and was being appreciated — your day was probably much more enjoyable than the shoppers’ experienced. Mom

As I mentioned in an email, I love that you focused and brought attention to the creativity woven throughout the materialistic world. You focused on the holiday spirit!

And I love the sketches!
Your work is awe-inspiring. I love everything you create–these sketches are magic!
So glad you moved to Westport, seeing artists sketch downtown, musicians playing on the street use to happen all the time when I was growing up and this town had a stronger Arts presence, glad you got some great sketches in too!

What a fun way to experience the day after Thanksgiving… I should tell Ryan to visit with his guitar- could be an interesting experience for him…
Great skethces- thanks for sharing this bit of ciity life for us rural folks!!
Thank you so much for drawing attention to this musician – my son. And thanks to the Westporters who generously support him; he spends his money on getting to jam sessions in NYC. Your drawings are lovely and I’m so glad to have discovered your blog
Beautiful spontaneous sketch. This was great to see and read because it gave me a nice glimpse of life in Westport.
Thank you Elaine for the beautiful sketch! Its amazing how total strangers can connect through two different forms of art. Please keep in touch!

Elaine, So glad to be introduced to your blog. Your pictures are delightful. My grandson played his sax in Westport on black Friday. Who knew he was being sketched while he played. Thanks.
