Consciousness and The Brave Swimmer
Posted on 03 February 2010
Years ago I had a meditation. In this meditation, I was hovering over a beautiful brook or river. There were branches and rocks, and tree limbs reaching over the water. The sky was reflected in the water as it flowed. A voice said to me, “Don’t be like the river, BE the river.” I began to not just hover over the water, but actually flow as water. I felt myself move over rocks, turning with the land, going effortlessly and quickly with some easy force which carried me along. It was very freeing to “be” water, rather than looking at water and trying to think about water and what it does and is. When I painted this swimmer, I was thinking of water representing the unconscious, and how brave it can be to immerse ourselves in unknown aspects of ourselves in life, and to swim along with ourselves as we meet each moment, not knowing what the next moment holds, but creating our life lessons to a degree.

It’s very difficult for me to imagine BEING water! I’m always amazed at these experiences my daughters speak about. The way you think of water representing the unconscious, etc. is very interesting and thought provoking. Once again, good work! Mom
I have a painting that I call “Be the Water” Water has always played a powerful part in my dreams all my life – which goes with what you were saying about water and the unconscious.

I have often been water I love those dreams. It is like being free to be anything you want, go anywhere you want…hugs Linda
very poetic painting, I like it a lot.
Dear Elaine,
Your dream holds a very important spiritual lesson held as an end objective by almost all spiritual schools – that of becoming the super happiness instead of simply trying to achieve it…maybe this dream of yours points towards your natural spiritual evolution..consider it : )
